Heesoo Cho is a Ph.D. Candidate at Washington University in St. Louis. She studies early American perceptions of the Pacific Ocean with a focus on the relationship between the Pacific Ocean and the American West in the early republic. She is currently working on her dissertation, “The Making of the Mental and Material Map of the Pacific in Early America, 1740-1820."
