Scott Heerman is an Associate Professor of history at the University of Miami. He is at work on a book project that studies international kidnapping after emancipation in the Atlantic World, provisionally entitled Carried Back: Captivity and Belonging in the Age of Atlantic Emancipations, 1760-1860.
