The McNeil Center provides financial support to a diverse community of scholars working at all career levels, much of which originates from individual donors. We currently maintain two primary funds: The Friends of the MCEAS Fund and the Richter Fund.

The Friends of the MCEAS Fund serves to fill a critical gap in the Center’s financing of conferences and publications. Most significantly, the fund also provides financial support for our Friends of the MCEAS Dissertation Fellowships, focusing on research about Philadelphia and the Mid-Atlantic region.

The Richter Fund was established in 2023 in honor of Daniel K. Richter and finances an annual summer writing retreat for six early career early Americanists. With the support of a mentor, scholars engage in intensive writing and prepare to send out work for review by the retreat’s end. The Richter Fund particularly aims to fund contingent scholars lacking access to significant research budgets at their home institutions.
