Elena Telles Ryan is a doctoral candidate in history at Princeton University where she arrived after a previous life as a software engineer. She is currently writing a dissertation on legal transformation in the Western Great Lakes across the Revolutionary Era. Her work has been supported by the generosity of the Gilder Lehrman Institute, the William L. Clements Library, and the American Philosophical Society, among others.
